what a difference one letter makes..
If you're not terribly familiar with speed chess, then you are probably like most of the rest of us.
Also referred to as 'blitz chess' or 'fast chess,' speed chess involves a timer and a relatively limited duration for each player to make a move, resulting in faster matches and more unpredictable outcomes.
To be clear, speed chess was not being played beachside in Split, Croatia.
It was Speedo chess*.
Speedo chess, as far as I can deduce, involves old, bronzed men playing chess in banana hammocks. I suppose it's too late for a trigger warning.
There were actually several tables of these matches-- I was quite limited in the amount of time I could spend lining up the shot (for obvious reasons).
I endeavored to strike the balance between 'far enough away to show multiple participants' and 'close enough so you could in fact see the chessboard.' Any closer, and I fear you'd be able to identify the Bishop's Opening. [Groan]
*Apparently a cousin of Bikini Backgammon and the equally provocative Jarts in Jorts. [Yes, I realize those are not actually bikinis, but it sounded snappier than 'maillot.']
